ISASS Signs on to AMA Letter in Support of H.R. 293

ISASS joined physician organizations representing both national specialty medical societies and state medical societies in signing on to an AMA letter to Congressman Michael Burgess (R-TX) in support of H.R. 293. Congressman Burgess is the sponsor of H.R. 293 which clarifies that certain applicable manufacturer transfers of value to support independent medical educational programs and materials are exempt from reporting under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Sunshine Act). Mergers and downward pressure from payers on coverage and reimbursement for spinal surgeries is making it harder for patients to receive medically indicated surgical care and more difficult for new technology and techniques to emerge. SI joints are paired diarthrodial articulations of the sacrum and ilium. The SI joint serves as the biomechanical mediator between the spine and pelvis.
