ISASS Provides Comments to MCG on Sacroiliac Joint Fusion Coverage Policy Updates

On March 6, ISASS sent a comment letter to the policy guideline entity, MCG on its Sacroiliac Joint Fusion coverage policy. MCG provides research and policy guidelines used by third party payers to determine payment and coverage policies. MCG guidelines are designed to be considered as evidence based. ISASS sought to provide their coverage analyst with updated information on ISASS’ updated SI Joint Fusion policy statement and the ISASS recommendations for appropriate criteria for SI Joint Fusion procedures and criteria on non-surgical options for the purposes of developing coverage approval and prior authorization policies. ISASS is an active participant in several AMA bodies through its seat on the AMA House of Delegates: AMA CPT Editorial Panel AMA/Multi-Specialty Relativity Update Committee (RUC) AMA Federal Advocacy and Policy Federation It is through this activity that ISASS has been able to directly achieve many important outcomes that have benefited ISASS members. CMS Announces New HCPCS Code for Coronavirus Testing

On February 13, CMS announced the development and publication of a new HCPCS code for providers and laboratories testing for patients who require examination for the 2019-Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Specifically, CMS developed a new HCPCS code for providers and laboratories to test patients for SARS-CoV-2. This code will allow those labs conducting the tests to bill for the specific test instead of using an unspecified code, which means better tracking of the public health response for this particular strain of the coronavirus to help protect people from the spread of this infectious disease. CMS Opens Medicare Open Payments Network Reporting for Calendar Year 2019

Surgeons who are treat Medicare patients are required to submit information under the CMS Open Payment system. Medicare Reporting entities are currently submitting Program Year 2019 data. In order to participate in upcoming Open Payments program activities, physicians and teaching hospitals must be registered in the Open Payments system: If you registered last year, you do not need to register again.
