SAS-TURK: The First Annual Meeting of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, Turkey Chapter
The First Annual SAS-TURK Meeting was Held in Istanbul, Turkey in November 2011
The First Annual Meeting of SAS-TURK took place from November 10 to November 12, 2011 at Koç University, School of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Fahir Özer served as the president of the meeting. The site of the meeting was Istanbul, one of the most historical cities of the world and the only city that could bridge two continents.
The main objective of the meeting was to offer a high-level communication platform, providing the opportunity to extend and to enrich the field of rigid and dynamic instrumentation of the spine. The Meeting was a resounding success, attracting well over 90 delegates from 6 countries including Turkey, France, Jordan, Egypt, India, and Korea. The Meeting provided spine surgeons an opportunity to interact professionally and socially.
In the first morning of the meeting, Professor Fahir Özer briefly introduced the preparation and goals of the The First Annual Meeting of SAS-TURK, followed by welcome addresses given by President of Koç University Professor Umran İnan, and Dean of School of Medicine Professor Şevket Ruacan. Then, high -level presentations were delivered, highlighting the most updated information on dynamic and rigid instrumentation. The first day of the meeting was concluded with a cocktail at Koç University and followed by a dinner at Angel Blue, which is one of the famous seafood restaurants on the Bosphorus.
The meeting provided sessions of high scientific content, innovative topics, stimulating discussions on spine surgery with 30 guest speaker presentations. Many members of the audience had the opportunity to discuss their specific questions with lecturers. In addition to the scientific program, there was an enticing social program which made this congress a memorable event. The Meeting was concluded with a gala dinner at the Swissotel The Bosphorus.
